Bacon Jam Smashburger Recipe
American
Time to get your smash on! These Bacon Jam Smashburgers are the perfect combination of smoky, sweet, and savory flavors. Whether you’re using store-bought jam or this homemade recipe, you can’t go wrong. If you’re buying store-bought bacon jam, we suggest Black Pepper Bacon Jam from TBJ Gourmet or Bacon and Onion Jam from Stonewall Kitchen.
Smashburgers have skyrocketed in popularity this past year with the help of social media, and the trend will only continue to grow. The real question is, what Smashburger technique will you use? There are two main techniques for getting the perfect smash.
- “The Schweid Smash” or the classic smashdown. Slap your sliders on the grill, smash to your desired thickness, and get cooking. Wait for the juices to rise & flip in one turn.
- The Lacey Super Smash: Smash it thin and smear the meat on the grill for your lacy edges. This technique will give you crispy, see-through edges.

- 1 Pack Schweid & Sons The Signature Blend Sliders
- 4 Each Burger Buns
- 4 Slices Swiss Cheese
- 8 Tbsp Bacon Jam (Homemade or store bought)
- 1 Pound Good-Quality Bacon (Diced)
- 1 Medium Yellow Onion (Finely Chopped)
- 2 Large Garlic Cloves (Minced)
- 1/4 Cup Good-Quality Maple Syrup
- 1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1/4 Cup Brewed Black Coffee
- 1/4 Cup Dark Brown Sugar (Packed)
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Add sliders and immediately press down firmly with a grill press to smash. Cook until crispy brown at the edges, 4-5 minutes. Flip, and top ½ of the patties with swiss cheese. Add a tablespoon or two of bacon jam to each patty, and then stack a plain patty onto a swiss cheese patty and set aside. Toast buns briefly on the griddle and then stack your double smashburgers onto a bun. Enjoy!
- In a medium pan, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until crispy/ Use a slotted spoon to transfer bacon to a separate bowl. Drain all but 1-2Tbsp bacon fat from the pan and set aside/save for later use.
- Add the onion and garlic. Sauté over medium-high heat for 3 minutes until fragrant. Add maple syrup, cider vinegar, black coffee, brown sugar, salt and a generous amount of black pepper. Stir. Return the diced bacon to the pan.
- Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, uncovered, for 50-60 minutes. Stir occasionally. Jam is ready when the mixture thickens and resembles a loose but syrupy, chunky jam. Jam will thicken as it cools. Serve warm or room temperature.
