How to Make Great Sauces for Burgers

Feeling Saucy?

Ketchup and mustard will always be the best default options when it comes to choosing your Burger condiment of choice. But, with a little creativity, and a few zesty ingredients, you can take that Burger from ok to YAY!

Up your sauce game with these unexpected zingers. The best part? Most of these only require mixing the ingredients together in a bowl or throwing them all in a blender!

💥Gochujang mayo

There are literally 2 ingredients needed for this sauce – mayo and gochujang (Korean chili paste). Add a little extra zest with a squeeze of lime or lemon.

💥Tajin sauce

Tajin seasoning is a combo of spicy and tart. Mix it with mayo, plain yogurt (or sour cream), and a bit of lime or lemon and you’re good to go.

💥Roasted red pepper sauce

Dazzle guests at your next outdoor BBQ by roasting red peppers on the grill and making a delicious sauce to top Burgers with. After roasting the peppers (and cooling them), just put all the ingredients [garlic, parm, parsley, and heavy cream] in a blender, and voila!

💥Peruvian hot sauce

Another easy blender recipe is a Peruvian green hot sauce made from aji verde. Blend it with cilantro, aji amarillo, huacatay, and cheese for a creamy, spicy treat.

💥Blueberry ketchup

A twist on the old faithful and an adventure for those who seek it! This takes a little stovetop prep, but trust us it’s worth it. Heat olive oil in a pan, add the minced shallot, then ginger and garlic. Finally add blueberries, red wine vinegar, brown sugar, and a dash of salt. Bring to a boil, simmer, and serve.

💥Bacon jam

This one’s for those that love a little sweet with their salty. Cook up some bacon. Remove from the pan and use the bacon fat for cooking chopped onions. Add brown sugar, spicy mustard, brewed coffee, balsamic vinegar, and cayenne pepper. Simmer and caramelize the onions, add bacon (cut up in small pieces) back in, and cook it all down before adding the cooled mixture to a blender or food processor.

💥Fast food zesty sauce or Smash Sauce

You might recognize these flavors from one of your favorite fast food chains, but…ssshhh…it’s top secret. Mayo, jarred minced horseradish, cayenne pepper, mustard, white vinegar, lemon juice, salt, sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce. Experiment with proportions until you get the flavor combo you like best! Want to elevate this sauce? Make your own mayo!

💥Spicy beer mustard

This one is perfect for your next BBQ or tailgate part. Note that there are a couple of overnight steps involved. The yellow mustard and mustard seeds must soak in a bowl of cider vinegar and dark beer overnight to get the most out of these flavors. Combine and boil a little more beer, brown sugar, honey, kosher salt, turmeric, and allspice. Once cooled, put everything in the blender (mustard seeds and soaking liquid included) and refrigerate overnight.
